Restructure positions MotorSport New Zealand for improved service delivery and growth

MotorSport New Zealand is making changes to its office structure to strengthen the way we support our Member Clubs, competitors, officials and wider motorsport community, while positioning the organisation for future growth.

As part of this restructure, four existing positions have been disestablished and a new organisational structure is being established.

We acknowledge that organisational change of this nature has a very real impact on people. We want to recognise and sincerely thank the staff affected by this decision for their contribution to MotorSport New Zealand and to the wider motorsport community. We greatly appreciate the commitment, professionalism and service they have provided during their time with the organisation.

The new structure has been designed around two clear priorities: delivering better service to our members and customers, and building the capability needed to grow motorsport in New Zealand.

A stronger focus on service and growth

As our sport continues to evolve, so too must the way MotorSport New Zealand operates.

The new structure will place a stronger emphasis on the areas that matter most to those who interact with us every day. This includes improving support for Member Clubs, making it easier for competitors, officials and organisers to engage with us, and ensuring our core sporting and regulatory functions continue to be delivered effectively.

At the same time, new positions will introduce capabilities that MotorSport New Zealand does not currently have, with a greater focus on growing participation, strengthening the sport and creating new opportunities for our members. These changes are about ensuring we have the right roles, capabilities and resources focused in the right areas.

Once the new structure is fully implemented, MotorSport New Zealand’s overall staffing level will increase by only one full-time equivalent (FTE). Importantly, our total staffing cost will remain well below its 2023 peak and our overall staffing remains lean compared with organisations such as Motorsport Australia and other National Sporting Organisations in New Zealand.

What happens during the transition?

With some existing positions having been disestablished and recruitment now taking place for new roles, there may be some small disruptions to service while we transition to the new structure.
We appreciate the patience and understanding of our members during this period.

Our priority throughout the transition is maintaining our core services. Licensing, technical, event permitting and other event-related applications and queries will continue to be processed, and we will work to minimise disruption wherever possible.

Once recruitment is complete and the new structure is fully operational, we expect our members and customers to see a stronger level of support and service from the MotorSport New Zealand office.

These changes are an investment in the future capability of MotorSport New Zealand.

Our sport needs a national body that can deliver its essential regulatory and administrative responsibilities efficiently, while also having the capability to actively support clubs, improve the experience of our customers and grow participation in motorsport.

The new structure is designed to achieve that balance while maintaining a disciplined and sustainable approach to our overall staffing costs.

We look forward to sharing more information about the new structure and introducing the new members of the MotorSport New Zealand team as recruitment progresses.
